Nicole Rankin grew up in Fort McMurray after moving here 14 years ago with her family from a small town in northern Ontario. Growing up, she couldn’t wait to get home from school so she could spend time with her younger cousins and other neighborhood kids. Nicole graduated in 2013 from the Educational Assistant program at Keyano and has been working with the Catholic School Board as an educational assistant ever since! She loves being with kids of all ages. While helping them to learn and explore, Nicole feels that kids also show her new ways to look at learning and exploring the world! Nicole is proud of the new healthy lifestyle she has adopted and is excited to inspire children through our Shine Kids Fitness programs.
Shelby's yoga journey began when she was four years old, in her grandmothers basement. Little did she know that the many 7:00am tree poses and downdogs would become a life long journey and passion. She completed her 200hr Hatha Yoga Teacher Training at the Vancouver School of Yoga in October 2014, and her 25hr Kids Yoga Teacher Training with Little Hippies in October 2015. Shelby has always loved working with kids- whether that be teaching swimming lessons, babysitting, working in the Mini Boogier room at Oranj or now as a full time Family Support Worker at the Hub Family Resource Centre! She believes that the more we can empower children and help them to believe in themselves- that our world will be a brighter and better place. Shelby can't wait to share her practice, laughter, and big heart with all the kids at Shine!

Ana is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She defines her self as a Gypsy soul with a big kid heart. Passionate traveler and adventurer she left the corporate world to venture the seas where she met her husband David while both were working for Carnival Cruise Lines. They moved to Fort McMurray exactly 10 years ago and now raises their two kids Miguel and Nina here.
Ana discovered Yoga when she decided to join her mother's classes when she was 7 years old and fell in love with it. Willing to deepen her practice she completed her 500 hour Teacher Training with South Okanagan Yoga Academy in 2014. A year earlier she found her path when she took her Rainbow kids yoga training in Victoria, BC. She then implemented Yoga for Kids program at The Hub Family Resource Centre. Ana knew that she could get a better connection between parent/ child when she brought a program that would engage connection not only through gross motor activities but also through the Yoga philosophy.
When she is not at her mat you can find Ana exploring Birchwood Trails with her dog Kitt, cooking and dancing with her friends or traveling around with her family. She loves her community and she is beyond excited to be part of Shine Kids Fitness family.
Dan was raised outside of a small town in central Alberta and moved to Fort Mcmurray in 2013 to chase a dream of working for the fire department, never imagining he would play a part in helping to combat the Fort McMurray wildfire in 2016. Since moving to Fort McMurray he has stayed busy with many activities such as training and competing with the Fort McMurray Firefit team travelling around Canada, playing hockey (his first passion in life) and snowboarding whenever he can squeeze it in. Dan grew up playing hockey (midget AA for 3 years & Junior B for 3 years), but these days you would more likely find Dan in the yoga studio. Dan started doing yoga in 2011, looking for more flexibility in his body. Very rapidly yoga became a bigger part of his life. Dan recognized the benefits of yoga are greater than just flexibility. In 2015 he took his 200 hour RYT training here in Fort McMurray with Kaitlin Armstrong and Pattie Dwyer and has been teaching Yoga ever since. He believes yoga is a life long practice that presents an ever evolving physical and mental challenge and does so in a mindful and healthy way. This all sounds serious but ultimately Dan believes that having fun and being playful throughout will encourage you to come back to your mat as often as you can. Dan is excited about the opportunity to introduce yoga to boys age 10+ in our community of Fort McMurray and to have FUN sharing bits of wisdom from all he has learned through training in hockey and in his career as a fire fighter.
Meet Jamie Olson! Jamie is super excited to join our Shine team as one of our youth/teen yoga instructors working with youth age 10-17. She was born in Saskatoon but has called Fort McMurray home for the past 31 years. Growing up she was a competitive swimmer from the age of 8 into university. A love of being around water and teaching preschool age children she became a swim instructor and lifeguard at the age of 16, working at centennial pool for a number of years. She always knew she wanted to become a high school art and English teacher so she moved to Edmonton to pursue her education and upon completion became a certified secondary school teacher, the majority of her teaching career has been grade 10-11 English. With her supportive husband Jeff; raising their three young boys ages 1-5 has been their priority for the past 5 years. Jamie's love of yoga stems from practicing at the yoga loft during university, it was a 90 minute hot ashtanga class. Her practice has changed over the past 14 years, loving the physicality of a power class or ashtanga, to finding her true meaning of yoga; the mind/body/soul connection. Jamie completed her 200ryt through Oranj in March 2017 and knew she wanted to teach yoga in the community right away. She co-teaches the Mats for Meta each Sunday at Oranj and is excited to be part of Shine Kids Fitness. Her two eldest sons have been a part of the programs since its inception and she sees how her children thrive at home and in school. Jamie's other passions include painting, reading, running, travelling, paddle boarding, drinking tea and relaxing with a good movie!
